Holyfield VS Tyson - The Bitefight

The 28th of june 1997 the two boxing legends Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield met in the ring to fight for the WBA heavyweight worldchampionship. The fight endet in scandale as Tyson bit off a part of Holyfields right ear. Tyson was disqualified from the match and lost his boxing license.

The Fight was the second match between two of the most infamous heavywieght boxers in history. Holyfield and Tyson met the first time the 9th of november 1996 where Holyfield won in the11th round when the referee stopped the fight. Giving the victory to Holyfield by TKO.

The second meeting between the to boxers were set at the MGA arena on the 28th of June 1997.
The fight was set up by carismatic promotor Don King and was highly hyped due to the rematch after the TKO in 1996.

The match was dominated by Holyfield who won the first 2 rounds. This frustrated the tempered Tyson who at the start of third round was send back to the corner for his mouthpiece. He lost the mouth piece with 40 seconds remaing of the third round and when Holyfield got him in a clinch he toke a 1 inch bite of Holyfield right ear.

The TV-pictures clearly shows Tyson biting Holyfield in the ear and you can only imaging the pain and rage running through Holyfield as he realises what just happend.
