Metallica - the Black album

In 91 heavy metal band Metallica realesed their 5th album. Metallica, also called the black album by many as the cover is all black only with a grey snake and the well known Metallica logo also in grey.

The Band had made a big name of theme selves on the metal scene mainly in the USA with their big epic tunes and compotions in often long tracks, 10 minuttes or so, that weren´t made for the mainstream charts.
On this album Metallica tried to shorten their songs and putting 4 or 5 riffs into the same song but keeping them more simpel. The Black album is the first album to feature the collaboration with producer Bob Rock. This is partnership that has lastet ever since.

Interviews with Metallica about the recording of the black album.

Bob Rock thought Metallica lacked the power and strength on the albums, they had when they performed live. This was what he tried to get out of the band in the studio when they recorded the Black album.
After it´s realese the album went to number 1 and all the 5 singels went in top 25 in the mainstream rockchart.
The five singels realesed from the album was:
Enter Sandman

The unforgiven

Nothing else matters

Where ever I may roam

Sad but true

The succes of the album and singels brought the heavy metal to the mainstream musicscene but at the same time the critics from Metallicas original fans found some hard to see their band sell out as some might say. Never the less the Black album cemented Metallica as one of the biggest bands of rock in the history and they still are!
