PlayStation one

The playstation was Sony´s first encounter with the gamingconsol, and became a massive seller worldwide. It was realeased in japan i december 1994 and the rest of the world followed in 1995.

Sony got The playstation hyped and the prices they sell for due to low manufacturing costs made it competitive from the launchdate forward.

The playstation was a direct competitor to the Nintendo and Sega consols, who were the leaders of the market in the beginning of the 90s. Sony´s realese of the playstation marked the beginning to the end of Sega´s production which they finally ended in 2001 after bad salesnumbers of the SEGA dreamcast.

Amongst big titels for the playstation was the Crash Bandicoot games by developers,  Naughty Dog. Crash became a sort mascot for the playstation like Super Mario is for Nintendo and Sonic for SEGA. The Crash Bandicoot game has had many sequels, and like Mario and Sonic also games in other genres than the platform genre. He is now returning in 2017 in a PlayStation 4 title.
Other popular titles for PlayStation was fighting game Tekken and racinggame Grand Turismo.

PlayStation 1, together with the simelar spec-wise, but smaller PSone, became the first video game console to sell 120 million units.
